SOME will do anything to retain their youthful glow, whether it’s a cosmetic procedure or a trip to the spa.
One such treatment is a skin peel, with some celebrities flocking to their local dermatologist to have theirs.
What is a skin peel?
A skin peel is a chemical solution that is applied to the face to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of new cells.
The peel aims to improve the appearance of the skin, by reducing age spots and evening out hyperpigmentation.
There are three different types of peel: superficial; medium and deep.
Superficial and medium peels are usually safe providing they’re done correctly.
However, deeper peels are more risky and are longer lasting than the superficial and medium versions.
In the UK, chemical peels cost between £60-£100 for a milder peel whilst deeper peels may cost more like £500.
You should make sure if you decide to have a skin peel that an experienced practitioner does it, and is registered with a suitable specialist association and trained in the proper procedures.
The NHS recommends that you check the clinic is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and if you are unsure, you can ask them to show you their certificate.
